Hello fellow Celiacs

I just received some interesting information that I was floored over .
I was bitten by a deer tick a few weeks back.  At the time I did not realize it was a deer tick.  I thought it was the big ticks that you had to worry about.  About three days after I was bitten I started getting strange symptoms.  I had a stiff neck low grade fever and headaches.  I still did not think much about it.  I then thought maybe I should go on line and see more information on Lyme disease so I did.  I put in online  pictures of deer tick and low and behold  came the picture of the tick that was on me.  I then called my doctor's office.  They were not concerned they just said come in we will do a Lyme test .  I was concerned because on line it says you might not get a positive result for about a month.  They stated on line that you should be on antibiotics.
My doctor did not agree to that.  When the test came back negative she was ready to dismiss it.  I was not I convinced her to put me on antibiotics  The reason why I was so persistent with my doctor about going on antibiotics is that the person at the Lyme disease chapter gave me to one of their top doctors and she said that really anyone that has been bitten by a deer tick and they know it was a deer tick should be on antibiotics.  She said it takes about a month before Lyme disease will show up some patients will  show up right away with the disease but the majority will take a month before it will show up.  If you wait that long to go on antibiotics your health can have serious issues.  If you are put on the antibiotics proactively you can have a complete recovery from Lyme disease.  She said that their are stages with Lyme disease you want to have it that you are in the beginning  stages.  In some cases you might not know you have been bitten some of the symptoms are stiff necks low grade fevers headaches and there are many more  Deer Ticks are very tiny they look like a black poppy seed.

There   is a doctor that will give you a free 15 minute consultation on Lyme disease if you think you have been bitten and how to handle it.  You call her up she is not located in PA and they will schedule you an appointment over the phone when it is convenient for you and her her telephone number is 480 922 4393
This is not from the South Eastern Chapter of PA.
She is one of the top doctors on Lyme Disease. her name is Dr. Wells .
Dr. Wells also gave me another website to get more information on Lyme Disease which is

I began doing a lot of research on Lyme disease.  I called the National Foundation on Lyme Disease.  they said you definitely should be on antibiotics right away.  They further  gave me the telephone number to the South Eastern chapter for Lyme Disease in PA.  When I called them they said the same thing that I should be on antibiotics plus she said we are doing a lot research right now.  The research is showing that untreated Lyme disease can be the health trigger for Celiac  Disease and other diseases but mainly Celiac Disease Gluten Sensitivities and food allergies.

We have deers in our back yard and when I told her this she said I really believe that you were bitten before this one and did not know it.  This was your health trigger for Celiac Disease.  This might have been how you began your journey with Celiac Disease.  I was so floored  with this information.  I asked if  she  could further this information to me by email
The website for the South Eastern Chapter of PA for Lyme Disease is

She emailed me the information yesterday this is the link to the email she sent me

On the website they have a Celiac / Lyme disease awareness bracelet
This is the link for the Lyme /Celiac Disease awareness bracelet link
I ordered one today and sent an emailed to them thanking them for having it  and they emailed me back saying that she has had Lyme disease and Celiac disease along with other family members.

They say that this is only in the research stages but they do believe that untreated Lyme disease can lead to Celiac disease and some other conditions

I also wanted to let yo know that the South Eastern Chapter of the Lyme Disease Association also has booklets that yo can have sent to you about Lyme Disease to show your doctor and for yo uto have more informaiton about Lyme Disease.  It is a 26 page booklet that has websites on Lyme Disease and all the informaiton that you can learn about this disease.  The telephone number is 610 388 7333.  You might have to leave a message but they will call you back. The name of the booklet is Lyme Disease and associated diseases The Basics
A plain language  introduction to tick-borne diseases by Douglas W. Fearn

Published by The Lyme Disease Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania Inc.

  1. I was born with Celiac Disease. I am 74 years old and was diagnosed at 3 years old by a Dr. Haas in NYC. I have struggled all my life with allergic reactions to bee bites, mosquitos and skin irritations. I am diligent about my diet but sometimes slip and have body aches, fatigue and depression. These are all symptomatic with Lyme Disease. I was recently tested and B.Henselae IgG Ab (3) was 1:256 which is associated with Bartonella. I hope this information is of help to your research.
